Microsoft Surface Hard Reset

Before you give your handset to repair shop or buy new handset, please try the following procedure to repair your device. First charge your battery more then 70%, backup your important data like phone-book, message, email, images and settings and in most cases take out SIM card and SD card. After doing hard reset not possible to recover your data, so online backup is always important. For all of your data, a backup should be done on a external device, hard drive, raid system media or SD card.

Reset from within Windows

  • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and tap Settings. 
  • Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.
  • Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, tap or click Get started.
  • Tap or click Next.
  • Choose either Just remove my files or Fully clean the drive.
  • Tap or click Reset.

Reset from the Windows sign-in screen

  • From the Windows sign-in screen, tap or click the Power Power icon icon in the lower right corner of the sign-in screen.
  • Press and hold the Shift key. 
  • While the Shift key is still pressed, tap or click Restart.
  • Tap or click Troubleshoot.
  • Tap or click Reset your PC.
  • On the Reset your PC screen, tap or click Next.
  • Choose either Just remove my files or Fully clean the drive. The option to clean the drive is more secure, but takes much longer.
  • Tap or click Reset.

Reset from USB recovery media

  • Make sure that Surface is shut down and plugged in.
  • Insert the USB recovery drive into the USB port on Surface.
  • Press and hold the volume-down button while you press and release the power button on your Surface.
  • When the Surface logo appears, release the volume-down button.
  • When prompted, select the language and keyboard layout you want.
  • Tap or click Troubleshoot, and then tap or click Reset your PC.
  • If prompted for a recovery key, tap or click Skip this drive at the bottom of the screen.
  • Tap or click the target operating system you wish to reset. This refers to the current operating system installed on Surface.
  • Tap or click Yes, re partition the drives, and on the next page, tap or click Next.
  • Choose either Just remove my files or Fully clean the drive. The option to clean the drive is more secure, but takes much longer. 
  • Tap or click Reset.
